Original works of literature, drama, music, and art are among the many “works” that are protected by copyright, a sort of property. Copyright is something that happens naturally when an original literary work is created in the UK; there is no need, or even the capacity, to register it elsewhere. Once a piece of writing, drama, music, or art is created in the UK, its copyright is valid for 70 years from the end of the year the creator passed away (note: the UK has slightly different regulations for sound recordings, broadcasts, and films).
